This one was for a little girl who turned 8 last week!

This cake was so many firsts for me!

First time doing a pink ombré buttercream frosting.

First time I heard of Winx Club and Bloom– can you believe it! She even has a Facebook page.

I started with 4 layers of pink and white marbled cake. A cherished Dorie Greenspan recipe!

Some yummy pale pink buttercream…
Then I frosted the sides with three shades of pink buttercream, hoping for an ombré effect.

Bloom was made with gumpaste and fondant, and her wings from rice paper sprayed pink and blue.

So tell me, had any of you heard of the Winx Club before?

Do feel free to write asking for any pointers on how to make Bloom. I shall try and help you if I can.

  1. What a beautiful cake, you really are artistic, Bloom is just beautiful. I love the pink buttercream and marbled cake.

    • Sweet Suzanne! I actually thought Bloom looked …..not pretty at all. It was my first time painting on the eyes and mouth. But the Birthday Girl loved it- and that’s what matters ultimately!

  2. The three differing pinks look so beautiful together. I’ve never seen nor heard of that technique before.

  3. – Everything is so~ clever about this cake. I love the two+ toned cake and cream.
Bloom is so~ cute too. How long does it take to make the figurine/Bloom?
    – I had taken 2 semesters of cake decorating class some 32 years ago to be able to make my son’s first birthday cake. At that time there was no fondant and we piped everything. It has been for a few months now, I am contemplating on taking classes again.I wonder what they would teach now! I live in a different area now… I have to look for a class.

    • Thank you Fae. Bloom took about 5 days to completely dry and firm up, enough for me to put the pieces together. I made her head, torso and limbs separately. Then when they were firm enough, I put the legs and torso together. The clothes and hair were done 2-3 hours before the party. Cake was frosted the night before.
Wilton does classes all over the US. Learn the basics with them…after that its all practice 🙂

      • – Wow, I guessed it is time consuming creation.
        – Thank you so~ much for the tip on locating a class. I just checked, and there is Michael’s 15 miles form my home that offers Wilton’s classes!

  4. I have never heard of Bloom before! I’m not surprised since I only have boys!

That probably is why I LOVE this cake! I adore the pink! The marbled pink cake is absolutely the cutest thing ever! I think I might eventually steal that idea….giving you the credit of course!!! Oh and the frosting…..stunning!! Great job, I’m always so impressed by your cakes!

  5. It’s a beautiful cake – and a perfect shade of pink that’s cheerful but not too bright – but what I love most about is the way it looks when you cut it, love the pink swirls inside the cake.

  6. An incredible work of edible art! I really wouldn’t be able to slice into such a thing, although I know it would be delicious. The gum paste figure is really skillfully done, and I can only dream of having that kind of talent.

  7. I’m hardly surprised the birthday girl loved it. What girl would not? LOVE the pink buttercream. Beautiful!

  8. I am sure the 8-year old birthday girl must have loved this artistically made cake. The pink shade looks fabulous , the ‘Bloom’ looks cute with her shapely limbs and the cake must have tasted very yummy. My heartiest congratulations!
